If the air is against us, then let’s use land
The New York Giants have created absolute power in the running aspect of the game. Our starter Brandon Jacobs; third and fourth string Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw have showed the NFL that no matter who is running the ball for the Giants, it’s going to be a tough day for any defense.
Brandon Jacobs, the destroyer, has definitely put the numbers up for any doubt. Yes his injuries were a heavy toll on the Giants and in the beginning yes, it was looking like he might not be the next best thing. Jacobs is past all the nonsense now and has given himself some good recognition amongst his Giants fans as a monster in the running back position. We were all right when we said he’ll become a beast and with the experience he’s getting, it’s only a matter of time before he starts using other techniques to make his running game even more effective. Think not? he’ll be around for a while and you’ll see the progression of Jacobs to become the next best thing.
Derrick Ward was known to carry the weight and maintain the pace in Tiki Barber times. Now, eventhough injured, has earned the respect of defenders to be able to carry the game. Ward gives our running game what Tiki gave us which is finesse. He is very elusive and it is always exciting to watch him run the ball while defenders just miss him. On the other hand, Ahmad Bradshaw is beginning to earn what I saw in the kid from the very start. He impressed me during pre-season and has shown he has the ability to do it during regular season. He is also starting to see not just in front of him but ahead of him.
Our offensive line may have some trouble here and there with the passing but the running schemes are being worked to perfection. To allow our runners to break for big gains means we are getting the job done at the line of scrimage.
Bottomline, we are a threat. I know it may seem like we fall sometimes and can’t figure a way to get up but the spirit remains. Hopefully, we can give the public what they have been waiting for and show them how team spirit can get it done.
