Sunday’s Giants News
![]()
Historically, the Jints are 3-0 in NFC Championship games. They shut out the Redskins 17-0 in 1987, they beat the Joe Montana led 49ers 15-13 in 1991, and they blanked the Vikings 41-0 in 2000. In the 1990 season, the Niners were like that Patriots are now, and Big Blue kept them to 13 points. In 1999, the Vikings put up the most points ever during the season and the G-MEN shut’em out. This season, the Patriots broke the 1999 Vikings records. Randy Moss was a huge part of each team. Giving up 13 points in 3 Championship is pretty damn good. So of course they will be 4-0 later, right? I hope so, but the Giants are 1-4 against the Packers in the Playoffs going back to 1938. The Giants only beat the Packers the first time they faced each other in the Playoffs in 1938. I believe, do you?
Newsday:
Which version of Favre will show up? - Favre is do for a 3 pick game. Especially after last week’s comeback over the Seahawks. Once the Giants take the early lead, Favre will attempt to make it up in one play just like he always does. The D-Line of the Giants will also make Favre have to throw faster than he wants. So, the Giants will win this one.
Giants’ Manning won’t wear glove on throwing hand - There has never been any indication that Eli would wear a glove on his throwing hand. I don’t know how Newsday made an article about a topic without a basis to support it.
Ron Jaworski sees a big improvement in Giants - I find it odd that Jaws just realized this. Skip the article however because his analysis doesn’t even make sense. At one point when he was being really specific, he pointed out a play when the Giants played the Cowboys in Week 2…we all know that never occured. If Jaws cannot get his facts right then Newsday shouldn’t publish it.
Packers coffee klatch been huddling since ‘47
New York Daily News:
Win at Lambeau over Packers would be Super leap for Tom Coughlin, Giants
Giants at Packers is great NFC Championship game matchup
Eli Manning not ready to Pack it in yet - Nor should he be. Manning has an opportunity to win a Superbowl right in front of him.

Tastiest matchup for Fox pits perfect Patriots vs. Brett Favre’s Packers - Who cares???
Giants don’t expect Bad Brett Favre - These newspapers are getting on my nerves right now. Why would a football team believe that the bad Brett Favre is going to play? If the Giants believed that then they wouldn’t have to prepare for the game physically or mentally.
Big Blue Bus just keeps rolling along - Hank Gola recapped the road games that Big Blue played this season.
Eli Manning piling up endorsements - Yeah…like that really bad Oreo commercial with brother Peyton and mom and dad. Just win this game please.
Giants-Packers is like cold times again
Many Giant season-ticket holders told no Super Bowl seats for you - The only thing that sucks about the NFL is that the game is in a neutral location and the fans cannot be there to see it like in baseball, basketball, and hockey.
Die-hard Giant fans fly into Green Bay, bundle up for Ice Bowl II
New York Post:
COLD, HARSH CASH GREEDY NFL FREEZING OUT FANS WITH LATE STARTS - And they should be ashamed of it. It’s cold at 1pm and 4pm when games are supposed to be played. If you are not aware, the NFL is much more concerned about the millions of television viewers instead of the 80,000 fans at Gillette Stadium and Lambeau Field.
SERBY’S SUNDAY Q&A WITH… R.W. McQuarters. Here’s Steve Serby’s best question:
Q: Stephon Marbury is out for the year. Could you step in at point guard for the New York Knicks?
A: Yes, sir. I wish Mr. Thomas would give me a call.
A FAVRE-LOUS WAY TO MAKE SOME GREEN
WHEN IN IT, GIANTS WIN IT - The Giants are 3-0 in Championship games. In a few hours, they should be 4-0.
BLITZING SCHEMES TO PUT FAVRE ON HIS FANNY AND GIANTS IN THE SUPE - That’s what it’s all about. The Giants still haven’t knocked a Quarterback out for the season this year so they’re due. The G-MEN have been known for that.
GIANTS: OUR VETERANS DESERVE A RING - Then they got to got out and earn it.
LITTLE VOICE FROM THE PAST SAYS … WHACK THE PACK!
The Star-Ledger:
A big-time reunion for small-town players
Winging it on ‘D’ - Whenever the G-MEN have advanced deep into the Playoffs, they’ve relied on their ‘D’ for as long as I can remember. It is odd when the Giants are not a solid defensive unit.
Pack must work OT to protect their boss
Freeze frames - Jerry Izenberg relives the 1961 and 1962 Championship games between the Giants and the Packers.
