Thursday’s Giants News
![]()
The Giants are still looking into some free agents, but they aren’t as busy as what other teams are doing. Since Jerry Reese said that the Giants will be relatively quiet during free agency, I’m waiting for the Draft which is still a ways away. That’s when Jerry will be busy so I want to see who we are getting already.
Newsday:
Giants’ Tyree still catching a hero’s reception - Bob Glauber discusses how popular David Tyree has become since becoming a hero in Super Bowl XLII.
New York Post:
COUGHLIN PACT IS LIKELY TODAY - Paul Schwartz revealed that the Giants should officially announce Tom Coughlin’s contract extention today.
ELI GLAD TOM’S BACK - According to Brian Lewis, this is what Eli Manning had to say about Tom Coughlin:
We came in the same year; he [traded for] me, and we’ve had our ups and downs. One thing a quarterback and a head coach share is you get too much blame after a loss and too much credit after a win. We both understand that.
But we have a great relationship. We understand each other. I’m excited for him that he’s going to be our coach for a long time, and we’re looking forward to it. It’s a tribute to hard work.
After you win a championship, you’re going to lose a few guys; that’s just part of the deal. Other guys have to step up. I’m happy we have all our offensive guys coming back, at least.
The Star-Ledger:
Needell: Favre presser - Paul Needell expressed his thoughts on Brett Favre’s retirement speech.
Needell: Landeta ‘retires’ - Paul Needell noted that former Giants Punter, Sean Landeta, officially filed his retirement papers today. Landeta hasn’t played since 2005. Mike Garafolo wrote that Sean waited to retire because:
Today, March 6, 2008, marks the 25th Anniversary of the first game played in the United States Football League (USFL) between the Philadelphia Stars and the Denver Gold. It was the game in which punter Sean Landeta made his professional debut. Now, a quarter century later, the longest tenured and one of the best punters in NFL history will hang up his cleats for good as he officially announces his retirement. He becomes the final player from the USFL to retire.
Ex-Buc Brian Kelly on tap for visit - Mike Garafolo pointed out that Big Blue is still looking for another cornerback. Former Bucs cornerback, Brian Kelly, is supposed to visit the Giants today. Kelly, 32, played opposite of Ronde Barber and visited the Lions yesterday.
