GAME OF THE WEEK

November 06, 2007 By: phessional Category: Aaron Ross, Die Hard Giants Fan, Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, NFL, New York Giants, Osi Umenyiora 2 Comments →

Question: What is good for your health? A healthy Giants team. At the same standing point as last year the Giants don’t look as dismantle as they were. The starting line-up looks 100% and with the way they’re playing these Dallas Cowboys are going to have to strategize well.

My main focus going against a team as strong as the Cowboys is the execution from our defensive line. Here is where the main event is going to happen. Our defensive unit is healthy and looking to close Tony Romos’ path on every play. It’s going to be a showdown for the defense, Michael Strahan on one side and Osi Umenyiora on the other hungry for more sacks. Romo is good inside and outside the pocket but he’ll see what these boys can do and better yet he’ll get to feel it. To all fans there’s not going to be a better feeling than Romo hitting the ground. This defensive line has QBs making the wrong decision and letting our safeties and cornerbacks get some interceptions. Especially with Aaron Ross in the zone, he’ll be looking to take it to the house.

Our offense is up and running also with Eli Manning taking on a better leadership role. This will be a good test for Manning where he’ll feel the pressure of going against a good quarterback like Romo. His brother felt the pressure of going against an elite quarterback in Tom Brady, now it’s the brothers’ turn against Romo and it’s going to be a show down. And don’t get me started on the running game the Cowboys are going to have to worry about.

I don’t take anything away from the Cowboys as a team, but this weekend they’ll face a unit that has proven to everyone playing with heart is playing the part. TALK IS CHEAP, PLAY THE GAME!

Soooo…what do we do for Sunday?

Since the Giants are out for their bye week, we have one of the best match ups ever coming up. The New England Patriots versus the Indianapolis Colts.

With both teams 6-0 this is going to be a match up probably viewed as much as the superbowl. New England looks very strong but we can never bet against Indianapolis. All I know is that New England will not go undefeated during the regular season. We face them in our last game of the season and it’s going to be an exciting match up with the type of defense we have. I love the fact that I can talk smack now because we have such a good team. It’s the part of being a fan I like. Patriots and Colts fans have enjoyed this for a long time but now it’s going our turn. Let’s let the season develop further and we’ll see the chart my friend Keith has provided for us go down in numbers to be under top fives.

Believe me that with this team and the type of heart we been playing, there’s no stopping us. We are crushing many opposing teams and coming up with wins against teams that pose a threat. We have some tough match ups ahead of us, but the main thing is we are playing with heart.

SO MANY TO PICK FROM

November 02, 2007 By: phessional Category: Aaron Ross, Amani Toomer, Antonio Pierce, Brandon Jacobs, Die Hard Giants Fan, Eli Manning, Jeremy Shockey, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka, NFL, New York Giants, Osi Umenyiora, Plaxico Burress, Tom Coughlin No Comments →

Ok, so I’m stuck with a good decision bacause many of my Giants are looking like number 1s.
First choice is Osi Umenyiora in the defense and Brandon Jacobs in the offense.

Don’t let me leave out Aaron Ross, Justin Tuck, Mathias Kiwanuka and Antonio Pierce who are all playing probably some of the best football in their career. Osi is the main weapon in this defense I believe. Offensive lines and quarterback shifts are all due to the presence of our main man. Other teams have already begun to make their play calling according to Osis’ way of attack.

On the offense we also have Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Jeremy Shockey and the entire offensive line. Brandon Jacobs is the one who impresses me the most. I would not be surprised if Jacobs runs for over 100 yards until the end of regular season. He has proven to himself that this is possible and not satisfied yet. Jacobs is the engine this team needed in the offense. We do have some very good talent but who better to help Eli Manning than the man standing right next to him on the snaps.

They are all very exciting to watch which made it hard for me to narrow it down. It seems every week someone else steps up and makes the impact the team needs. Let’s not forget that without the coaching staff, thesee players would be all over the field. hats off to Tom Coughlin also for getting this team up and running.

Reuben Droughns contribution

October 25, 2007 By: phessional Category: Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, Die Hard Giants Fan, NFL, New York Giants, Reuben Droughns No Comments →

I have spoken about running backs for the Giants and given them the respect they deserve but I have never really given Reuben Droughns the props he deserves.

Reuben has been a great addition to the team. He was never looked at as a primary weapon but more of a finisher. To pound the ball into the end zone with bulk which is exactly what he’s doing. Reuben is ahead of Jacobs and Ward by a touchdown. He has been of good use on special teams and the most important thing, keeping Jacobs healthy. With all due respect mr. Droughns, I apologize for not givig enough love to another tough Giant. My hat goes out to you…

RUNNING WITH STYLE

October 24, 2007 By: phessional Category: Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, Die Hard Giants Fan, NFL, New York Giants, Reuben Droughns No Comments →

I know I said before that I would rather see Derrick Ward carrying the ball more percentage of the time than Brandon Jacobs. Looking at this man now though has me questioning myself, but would stick with the idea just to keep Jacobs healthy.

Jacobs is doing what I wanted him to do since the first day of regular season. Pound through opponents’ defense and wear them down. What is good about the running back rotation is that the Giants now can pound straight ahead and then switch the speed with Ward or Reuben Droughns to chop in from the sides. The running game is breaking through to the other side and defenders can’t seem to find a way to stop it from becoming great runs. We have become what we were supposed to be and then some. Many view us as even a better team than the Cowboys, but we’ll see them shortly and try to prove just that.

A tough division? Yes. I would say even the toughest division. “On our Journey to the superbowl we will face many challenges and it’s up to us on how we step up when these challenges come around.” It’s my quote for today but TALK IS CHEAP, PLAY THE GAME!

So back up QB and back up RB, uh?

London for sure is going to remember the giants. Our entire squad looks at its prime right now and the hurting Dolphins are about to meet a real shark.

Dolphins offense, wait, what offense? they’re going against the defensive beasts from the east. Osi Umenyiora, and Justin Tuck are breaking offensive walls putting them up in the stats chart with 8 sacks for Osi and 7 sacks for Justin. Michael Strahan has 4 sacks himself and the entire defensive line has starter RBs and QBs looking to get away. Antonio Pierce has 52 tackles which means opponents are only getting so far past the line until they meet our superb linebacker. Aaron Ross has 3 interceptions; Gibril Wilson has a pair and so does Sam Madison. This definitely puts a second thought into the QBs decision making ability.

Our offense breaks others’ confidence and changes opponents entire focus during the games. Eli Manning has accumulated 1,525 total passing yards until now and has 13 aerial touchdowns. Eli is right behind his brother Peyton Manning in the top ten list for most passing yards making this an interesting time for the brothers. Our 1,2,3 punch in the running game is wearing down defenders with a switch up of running styles that makes us almost unstoppable. Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer and Jeremy Shockey have a total of 1,224 total receiving yards with Plaxico leading the team with 550 himself. Plaxico is of course in the top 10 and looking to have another great day against the Dolphins.

Hey!, you and I know this is going to be ridiculous. Giants will win again and progress to 6-2

Props to the defense

There’s nothing better to me than the feeling of good defense making a good play. I know in the beginning it seemed like things were going to be different but little did I know it was only a matter of time.

The Giants defensive coordinator has done another great job in the play calling. I love this aggresive blitzing defense and things are working out very well for us. You can tell from the Falcons’ play calling that it was a matter of time before our coaching staff caught on to their plan of attack and shut it down. We adjusted to perfection against the falcons and saw their running state of mind as an opportunity for us to use our linebackers as a scare tactic. Michael Strahan, Osi Umenyiora, Justin Tuck Fred Robbins all made big plays at various times making the defense the most exciting part of the game to me. Lots of props to the defense for making a great adjustment and not allowing any points past the first quarter.

We are ready to face bigger birds than the Falcons. We have the speed, power, and finally got the respect of being able to stay on point.

Our defense is standing out

We have two defensive starters on top of the charts in the league leaders for defense.  nfl.com)
Girbril Wilson and Osi Umenyiora.
Both are doing extremely well and have made the charts for their outstanding performance. Gibril Wilson has 30 tackles and Osi Umenyiora has 7 sacks.

Our zone has benefited from Wilson in the coverage since we needed a big step up in that section of the field. To be a threatening force, we needed to shut down the opponents’ air game which is why we drafted Aaron Ross in the first round. Shutting or limiting the passing game has been a major set back for opposing quarterbacks. The field is being covered and the threat of an interception is the risk factor against the Giants. We are out there now and it’s getting tougher and tougher with every game we play. The adjustments and play calling have also been the key to our success in the coverage game.

There’s not enough to say about our work-horse Osi Umenyiora. While Michael Strahan still tries to find his way into the beast he once was, Umenyiora is making QBs run for cover. This guy is beating his opponents with speed and force. The most exciting thing about our defensive ends is that if they choose to double up on one of them, the other one has an easier time getting through. Now, what’s your plan against a defensive line like that? use extra men at the line such as a tight end or fullback thus leaving less men in your attacking force.

I can’t begin to explain how proud I am of our defense. In the beginning they all seemed very confused and fighting battles one on one. Now, the team has gotten together to form potential energy to stop the opponents kinetic energy (don’t get it? get your physics book). Other teams get out the way, Big Blue coming through!

“I Dream in Blue”

I received an e-mail the other day from a gentleman by the name of Chris Mills who is the Director of Communications at Haverford College.  Chris went on to complement ‘Die Hard Giants Fan’ and request that we provide a link to a video that another Haverford alumni, Roger Director, created.  Roger also wrote a book titled, “I Dream in Blue“.  As another Die Hard Giants Fan, I would love to help out another fan.  We are honered that other Giants fans are checking out our site.  I actually read about “I Dream in Blue” right as the season was kicking off in the New York Post.  I was going to write a post about it back then, but I don’t think I got around to it.  We, at Die Hard Giants Fan, will try to give “I Dream in Blue” a read in the offseason to let you all know how it is.

You can get access to Roger Director’s story on Haverford.edu.  From there, there is a link to a New York Times article about his book, there is a link to a YouTube video where Harry Smith speaks to Roger Director about the book, and there is a link to another YouTube video which shows Roger’s music video “I Dream in Blue”.  We definitely recommend that you check it all out.

The Giants Force

October 03, 2007 By: phessional Category: Amani Toomer, Die Hard Giants Fan, Eli Manning, Jeremy Shockey, NFL, New York Giants No Comments →

In the beginning I was thinking of shutting up, now I’m talking smack thanks to my Big Blue Dogs. Of course the defense stepped up big time and seem unstoppable but our constant offense is what makes us succeed.

Shockey, Plaxico, Toomer, Ward, Manning and the entire offensive line are making this offense stand out as tough contenders all around. Some teams wake up from the bad dream just like the Giants, but others don’t (ex/New Orleans/San Diego). Our offensive talent was always there, but the cast that impresses me the most is the offensive linemen. Manning is getting plenty of time in the pocket now and you can see how accurate this kid can be when given the chance. He has become a true leader I believe and seems to have the attitude to do well. This offensive line is giving Manning magnificent pass coverage and are pushing defensive lines to the correct angles on the run. Ward is finding the holes the defense is creating for him and by being patient, like Tiki, Ward has been looking more like a player who’s been starting for us for a while. Plaxico, Toomer and Shockey are dependable receivers and show this every Sunday.

With that said, I can definitely see the Giants making it to the playoffs and giving any team a hard time. New England might seem unstoppable but I don’t think they will have the same effect with a defensive unit like ours.

LET’S GO GIANTS, MAKE ME PROUD!
