George Martin Completed A Journey for 9/11

June 22, 2008 By: Keith Category: George Martin, NFL, New York Giants No Comments →

Yesterday, ESPN made a video that we posted about George Martin finishing his cross-country trek for A Journey for 9/11.  Now the media offered their thoughts on the story.  Martin ”went through 24 pairs of shoes and lost 40 pounds” and ended up raising $2 million along the way for sick 9/11 rescue workers.  Giants.com captured his thoughts…

I feel like a million bucks. Other than a blister that I have on my left foot, I’m in great shape. What they did on that day, I could never do in a million years. These heroes need our collective support. Many who answered our nation’s call for help now cannot even walk up the steps in their own homes due to severe respiratory and other ailments. Some are dying. They deserve our help. While this has been a difficult undertaking, it has also been wonderful to see our nation on foot while raising awareness about the plight of these 9/11 workers.

George Martin

What George Martin just achieved shows us that he is an American Hero.  He raised $2 million for other heroes that got sick during 9/11 rescue efforts.  This is a really great story, and there are others like this every day that don’t get the publicity that George Martin has gotten.  All of the actions made by people like this should be commended.  We are lucky that we had guys like Martin playing for the Giants, and we would be better off now if we had guys like him on the team.

Friday’s Giants News: Rookies Visit Canton

June 20, 2008 By: Keith Category: George Martin, Hall of Fame, NFL, New York Giants No Comments →

Megan King at NFL.com put together a piece on George Martin who is still walking across the country for A Journey for 9/11.  Rather than just letting us know where he is, King explained how it all came to be.  There’s also some really cool pictures of his journey to check out.

Giants.com:

Rookies Tour Hall of Fame - John Schmeelk let us know that 19 Giants rookies were given a chance to avoid falling victim to that credo when they visited the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio earlier this week. The group, led by Director of Player Development Charles Way, took a tour of the facility conducted by Hall of Famer Michael Haynes.  The trip was part of a new NFL program, in which the rookie class from every NFL team, including the undrafted free agents, visited Canton, Ohio and were given a tour of the facility by a Hall of Famer.

George Martin: A Journey for 9/11 Update

May 26, 2008 By: Keith Category: George Martin, NFL, New York Giants No Comments →

Megan King at NFL.com provided an update on George Martin’s A Journey for 9/11.  We already knew that Martin has been walking from New York to San Diego since September.  King wrote, “As of Thursday, on the eve of Memorial Day weekend, he’s 2,684 miles into his journey and with nearly $2 million in his coffers so far, firefighters as well as policemen and women from across the state of Arizona gathered at the Hall of Flame Fire Museum in Phoenix to say thank you.”  Wow, he’s almost at the end now.  What an accomplishment.  He’s going to be walking across the desert states from now on.  That must be extremely hot.  Poor guy.

Wednesday’s Giants News: Donations

April 02, 2008 By: Keith Category: George Martin, Jerry Reese, Michael Strahan, NFL, New York Giants, Sam Madison No Comments →

George MartinGeorge Martin is one of the classiest people to ever put on a Giants uniform.  He is walking across the country to raise money for those who suffered in the 9/11 attacks.  Martin began walking in September 2007, and was about halfway across the country during the Super Bowl.  We already know that Martin has been doing this, but I would like to say I’m proud of my boys in blue for donating to ”a Journey for 9/11“.  If you would like to donate to “a Journey for 9/11″, click here.

Giants donate to the Journey - Michael Eisen noted that Giants’ players donated $40,000 to George Martin’s “a Journey for 9/11“.

New York Daily News:

NFL defenses will be armed with radio helmets starting next season - Ralph Vacchiano and Gary Meyers wrote that, “The Giants and Jets were among teams voting Tuesday to approve radio helmets for the defensive signal caller to receive the plays from the sideline, bringing it equality with the coach-to-quarterback system used since 1994 and eliminating any chance of SpyGate II.”

Jerry Reese expects to see Michael Strahan in Giants’ camp - According to Gary Meyers, Jerry Reese stated this about Michael Strahan’s retirement situation, “We haven’t had any conversation right now.  We’ll sit down and he’ll let me know if he wants to play or not.  My gut feeling is I think he will play another year.  That’s just my gut feeling.  That may be out in left field somewhere.”

Super Bowl Sunday’s Giants News

Lombardi TrophySuper Bowl Sunday is here.  I’m ready for the game.  I’m ready to see Big Blue put tons of pressure on Tom Brady.  I want see the Giants rattle Brady for all 4 quarters.  In Week 17, the Giants attacked for the first 3 quarters and then it seemed like they got tired and Brady came back and won the game for the Pats.  This time, there is no getting tired.  Just attack and attack and attack the quarterback.  The G-MEN have to give 150% tonight to pull off the upset.  I still think that the Giants could win the Super Bowl.

Welcome to the Good Life - Keith Karlsson thinks that the 2007 draft class is one of the main reasons the Giant are in Super Bowl XLII.

George Martin to Walk Coast-to-Coast

August 28, 2007 By: Keith Category: George Martin, NFL, New York Giants No Comments →

On a positive note, Michael Eisen (Giants.com) wrote an article on how former DE George Martin is:

Walking from one end of the United States to the other in an effort to raise $10 million to care for first responders who develop illnesses related to the 9/11 terrorist attacks and its aftermath. His expedition will begin at the George Washington Bridge, move south to Washington, turn west on Interstate 40, cut through the heart of the nation and end after more than 3,000 miles of footwork at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Martin will depart on Sept. 16. He hopes to reach his destination in early December.

To achieve his $10 million goal, Martin has received commitments from many corporate sponsors, including the Giants, the N.F.L. and the N.F.L. Players Association, Hackensack University Medical Center, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health Systems, Fairleigh Dickinson University, United Parcel Service, Bear Stearns, Nike, TanaSeybert, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Keyspan Energy, Hunter Douglas, General Motors, Proskaur Rose LLP, WWE and SJI Association.

A website - ajourneyfor911.info – has been established for people to get information on the walk, track Martin’s progress and make a contribution. Every dollar raised will go to the cause and will result in $2 in medical services for the medical and recovery workers.

If you are interested in making a donation for George Martin’s efforts to raise money for the 9/11 folks, please click on the link in the preceding paragraph.  I feel that this is a great deed, and not enough was done for those affected on 9/11 or subsequently in the clean up efforts.  This will make up for what the city, state, and federal governments were not able to do.
